Bigscreen Now Features a Virtual Drive-in Cinema
Bigscreen has launched a major Christmas update and given users a long-awaited environment for watching films together.
The DRIVE-IN THEATER has been one of the most frequently requested features. It will now be available for both Quest and PC VR users. You can check out the new environment in the trailer below.

Users will now be able to enjoy the new environment from the comfort of their homes.
The social VR app has also updated its user interface with a major menu makeover. Users can now see an overview of everything that they can do in Bigscreen. These include the following: –
- Windows Desktop: Access your desktop in VR.
- Video Player: Plays the video files on your computer or Oculus Quest locally or via DLNA.
- Movies: Lends 3D movies and also takes you to the virtual cinema screenings
- TV Channels: You can watch livestreams from platforms like Twitch and YouTube.
- Public Rooms: You can meet people from different origins in virtual environments
- Private Rooms: Hang out with your friends in virtual environments
With the new scrollable interface and content categories, it is now easier for users to discover interesting rooms that they can join as well as new videos to watch.
Bigscreen has also added more than 60 new TV channels that include some of the main crime-drama series like Narcos as well as hilarious game shows such as Wipeout.
Bigscreen is also launching a new TV category known as To Infinity and Beyond that gives users livestreams of rocket launches. You can tune in to this to catch a rerun of the SpaceX rocket launch in these channels.
More Bigscreen Innovations Planned for 2021
Previously, Bigscreen supported up to 8 users per lobby but with its new beefy servers, it can now support up to 12 users per lobby. In 2021, Bigscreen is also planning to increase the room size limits for the user-created rooms. That means users will be able to create much larger rooms for meetups or conferences that could support anywhere from 25 to 50 users!
With Oculus no longer supporting the Oculus Go, the platform does not permit Bigscreen to release any Oculus Go updates. As a result, Bigscreen has terminated future support for the standalone virtual reality headset. However, Oculus Go users can still access certain Bigscreen features on the old server but the social VR app is planning to shut down these servers in the coming weeks.
Next year, Bigscreen is also aiming at pushing out new avatars, a new friends system, new environments as well as major upgrades to its video streaming. The social VR platform is also planning to push out a new ultra-low latency Remote Desktop feature among others. Also in store for users includes the porting of its app to PlayStation and Mac. However, the rollout of these features will take time.
Bigscreen also revealed that as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, its negotiations with film studios has been delayed but the team is currently working hard to license new 3D movies in the UK and Europe.
