Lynx has concluded its Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign for its Lynx-R1 mixed reality headset, the first AR/VR headset that supports the metaverse. The fundraising campaign raised $300,000 on its first day and went to raise just over 800,000 in a month from 1,216 backers.

The Lynx-R1 headset is an AR/VR headset that supports both virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR). It does mixed reality and supports open metaverse. The XR prototype of the mixed reality headset features Finch controllers, very unique lenses, a full-color passthrough, as well as next-level hand tracking functionality. You can use these AR/VR glasses to stream games like Half-Life: Alyx.

The glasses have a small form factor and have generated a lot of interest thanks to the blend of tech packed into the glasses. Its passthrough is in full color instead of in black and white like in the Oculus Quest headset. The glasses have hand tracking as the main input method instead of controllers. They utilize Ultraleap’s latest Gemini hand tracking solution.

The headset packs so much more inside its compact form factor. The compact form factor is as a result of its special optics including a 4-fold catadioptric freeform prism along with a 2.1” octagonal LCD panel.

The display has a resolution of 1,600 x 1,600 per eye at 90Hz with a 90-degree field of view. It runs on a Qualcomm XR2 chipset along with a Lynx-R1 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage that can be expanded to 1TB thanks to its SD card slot. It also features an onboard Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth and has a magnetic VR facial interface that stops any light leaks.

The Lynx-R1 is an all-in-one (AIO) mixed reality headset. It has a three-hour battery life and the battery is positioned on the rear strap. This is design is increasingly common in AIO devices as it gives better comfort and can support longer gameplay durations due to its balanced weight distribution.

Following the conclusion of the Kickstarter campaign, the company will now focus on the official launch of its Lynx-R1 headset. Backer shipments are set to begin in April 2022. If you hadn’t backed the Kickstarter campaign, you can still pre-order the standard Lynx-R1 headset for $599 or get the Enterprise Edition of the headset for $1,099.

The company’s redesigned website features a number of accessories such as a facial interface, travel case as well as 6DoF FinchShift controllers.
