Sony Still Silent on PSVR 2 Release Date
In spite of ground swelling rumors on a possible 2022 PSVR release date, Sony remains tight-lipped about the release date.
Last week, Sony did an official reveal of the headset’s name and specifications. In spite of the announcement, Sony remains mum about the release date and on whether the headset would be backward compatible with the current PSVR and its content library, according to UploadVR.
While companies often details of their products under the wraps before release, it is noteworthy that Sony isn’t even confirming a broader 2022 release window for the PlayStation VR 2 headset.
PSVR 2 was first announced early last year and the first reports about its specs emerged in 2021 so Sony has at least nailed down many of the kit’s specifications for quite some time now. Besides, the fact that Sony did a CES 2022 reveal might imply that the company was kicking off a months-long promotional campaign that would culminate in a product release later in the year, most likely around or during the holiday season. Two years ago, Sony did the same with the PS5.
UploadVR also speculates that the current component shortage may also have affected Sony’s release plans, just as it did to numerous other electronic devices. Due to this, Sony may be unable to commit a concrete 2022 release date for the PSVR 2 even if a plan for release already exists.
Things might be a little guarded right now but expect to hear more about PSVR 2 in the coming weeks.
