Little Cities Now Supporting Hand Tracking on Quest
Popular VR city creator Little Cities has launched the “Big Hands in Little Cities” update that brings hand tracking support to both Oculus Quest and Meta Quest 2.
The ‘Big Hands in Little Cities’ update enables players to use only their hands instead of controllers in the whole Little Cities campaign.
Little Cities is the highest rated VR city creator on the Quest Store… and it's about to get even more relaxing. ❤️

The creator, UK indie studio Purple Yonder, prioritized hand tracking support as the game’s first big post-launch update to the content. Purple Yonder says they wanted to dive into the “deep end” of what was possible to make them playable with hands and that they have achieved that and the update is “working really well.”
Players will point to an area of the map and use the super-intuitive pinch gesture to put objects in place and build roads in the game. This gesture is already widely used in numerous other hand tracking apps. In Little Cities, the hand movements will be slightly different as you will have to close and drag your hands in a fist and move laterally. You can zoom by moving your fists close together or further apart. You can rotate the map by moving your fists in a steering wheel motion.
Apart from these fist movements, the rest of the features in the hand tracking update should be familiar as the other buttons and actions have been transferred from controllers to hands without any changes. For instance, the wristwatch mechanic will work the same as in the controllers. That feature easily lends itself to hand tracking as you will naturally look at the hand and it still works similarly like in the controllers.
To select things in Little Cities, you will have a build bubble that you pop using your fingers. You will then access a section of the other bubbles that give you different options you can build. Little Cities creator says they didn’t have to change much to get this to work with hand tracking and that it works smoothly, giving you an almost tactile feeling.
You can find the ‘Big Hands in Little Cities’ update on the Quest platform. It supports hand tracking in both the original Oculus Quest and the Meta Quest headsets. In the newer headset, players will, of course, get the benefit of Hand Tracking 2.0.
