Reach, a new virtual reality action adventure from nDreams Elevation, now has a firm target date. Following its presentation at the Future Games Show on August 20, nDreams says the game will launch October 16, 2025, for Meta Quest, PlayStation VR2 and SteamVR.

The announcement moves Reach from an intriguing trailer into the autumn release calendar. Developed by the studio’s Elevation team, it is being promoted as a substantial, original VR adventure featuring climbing, fluid traversal, combat and interaction systems built around physical movement.

For a market that increasingly relies on remakes and conversions of traditional games, that ambition makes Reach worth watching. It is an original project attempting to deliver the scale of an action spectacle while using the body and hands as more than substitutes for gamepad buttons.

A new world built around physical movement

The footage presents an adventure through dramatic environments in which the player appears to climb, leap, handle equipment and confront dangerous opponents. nDreams says interactions are intended to produce a strong sense of bodily presence, with movement integrated into the design rather than added as a peripheral feature.

Physical traversal is one of VR’s most distinctive but demanding tools. Reaching toward a ledge and pulling yourself upward can create a convincing sense of action. The same system can become tiring or uncomfortable when it demands too many repetitive motions.

A successful implementation needs to balance expressive movement with accessible controls. Some players will enjoy fully physical interaction; others will need a way to reduce exertion or motion intensity. The announcement demonstrates nDreams’ intended direction, but the complete comfort options and how well they work are questions for release.

This emphasis on the physical body also creates opportunities for puzzles and combat encounters that depend on the environment rather than simply targeting enemies in front of the player.

From Elevation, an nDreams studio

Reach is the debut project from nDreams Elevation, part of the broader nDreams organization known for VR development and publishing. With Reach, the team is trying to establish an identity through a large-scale action adventure rather than a compact arcade experience.

That studio positioning matters. Developing a technically ambitious VR game requires artwork, performance optimization, level design and extensive playtesting across headsets with different hardware characteristics. A game that performs beautifully on a connected system must still make compromises to run on a standalone device.

nDreams has confirmed a cross-platform launch covering Meta Quest, PS VR2 and SteamVR. The announcement does not establish that every version will feature identical visual detail or rendering techniques. Those comparisons will become possible only when players can access the finished builds.

Preorders have also opened following the August presentation, giving nDreams a clearer measure of early interest ahead of October.

Why the release window matters

A mid-October release gives Reach a place in a busy season for games, including titles competing for attention beyond the VR market. The project has to sell its own fictional world and also persuade headset owners that it offers an experience worth making time to play.

Traditional action games have decades of established conventions. Players understand a large cinematic trailer, but translating that promise into VR introduces expectations about hand tracking, interaction fidelity and motion comfort. Impressive footage creates interest; reliable interactions keep it.

The simultaneous Quest, PlayStation and PC VR approach could give the game a wider initial audience than a platform-exclusive release. It also places different performance expectations on the development team.

On Quest, efficient art direction and carefully managed rendering are important. PlayStation VR2 and PC systems offer other capabilities and trade-offs. A coherent experience across all of them could become a selling point in its own right.

Original VR games still have room to surprise

The industry frequently debates whether dedicated VR studios should pursue original properties or adapt established games. Reach offers a reason the two approaches should not be treated as mutually exclusive.

Known franchises can give consumers confidence about a game’s setting and characters. An original world allows developers to design movement, encounters and environmental interactions around immersion from the earliest stages.

That creative freedom also carries risk. nDreams must explain why Reach is distinct from other fantasy and science-fiction adventures without leaning on a recognizable brand. What the new footage communicates most clearly is physical immediacy: the player is expected to act within the world, not merely observe it.

A larger action adventure can also test the durability of VR controls. A mechanism that feels thrilling for 20 minutes needs more variety to remain rewarding during an extended campaign.

What we still need to learn

The August announcement resolves the biggest scheduling question, but several practical issues remain. Players will want details about campaign length, movement settings, available control alternatives, performance and whether each platform receives the same content at launch.

It is also too early to treat promotional descriptions as independent confirmation of gameplay quality. Those claims need assessment after people have played the complete game, not simply watched a carefully edited demonstration.

Still, Reach represents the kind of ambitious project that can help VR software stand on its own terms. With an October 16 release now announced, nDreams has given headset owners a date to circle and a specific test of whether physical interaction can support a substantial action adventure.
