The Who

The Who Immersive App is being launched by the incredibly famous rock band The Who. They have a very big following in Europe and the U.S.A, along with a lot of other places.

To coincide with the latest album release of 50 of their greatest hits, the band decided to release this app for Facebook’s Oculus Rift headset. The app is 3D immersive and has been developed in association with Trinifold, the band’s management company. This app will be available to the masses for free and latest information shows that a premium version will be released for users of the Oculus Rift headset, which might by available in the coming year.

The Who Immersive App is basically based on a virtual reality world which holds The Who’s key landmarks and events occurring along their 50 year journey. The more recognizable and iconic features (like a pinball machine and magic bus) that have shown up in the band’s songs are also included in this 3D world of theirs. Rare photographs from their archives, and music contributed by the fans worldwide have also been included. The app basically features a visual exhibition of the compilation of the new album, and celebrates the band’s past and future both. Download and streaming services have been added to the app so fans of the band have easy access to the musical collection. It is almost like sitting down with the band and journeying through the past 50 years of their musical journey and the success they have enjoyed.

The app’s official release has been set for some time in 2015 but previous versions of this app have been available for download on both Android and iOS systems. There will be a media launch for The Who Immersive App on November 12th, 2014. The band believes that using virtual reality and smart phone apps to further their music can have untold advantages for both the rock band and their fans. It may even give both a chance to develop a communication bridge through which fans can talk to the band and vice versa. The band hopes to educate their younger fan base about their history through this app and take the older ones on a nostalgic journey. Seems like there is something in it for fans of all ages.

The Who believes that using virtual reality to communicate to their fans about their past and their plans for the future is the best way to go. They claim that a 2D website does not have the same appeal as a 3D world created completely from scratch. It appears to be more engaging, interesting and leaves avenues for the fans to revisit this world with their friends and family repeatedly.
