CNN Launches its CNNVR App on the Oculus Rift
The international News agency CNN partners with Magnopus, the company behind the Coco VR experience, to launch its own VR news app for the Oculus Rift.
CNN VR News comes to the Oculus Rift
CNN is working with the company behind the Coco VR experience, an interactive entertainment firm called Magnopus, to develop a VR app for the Oculus Rift that contains its virtual reality news stories. Such VR app is already available on iOS and Android devices, the latter thanks to the Samsung Gear and Google Daydream headsets, but now for the first time ever people with desktop setups and an Oculus Rift headset will be able to experience CNN’s news stories in VR.
The app gives people the ability to “go there” through a well-made interactive experience made of the best of CNN’s breaking news videos and stories –allowing viewers a deeper sense of connectedness with the news. The CNNVR app positions viewers as the producers of their own show, placing them at the center of their virtual news experience.
Users should follow a tutorial voiced by CNN Anchor Wolf Blitzer to better get the hang of the app and then choose any of the amazing news from the library to transport themselves into the best immersive 360-degree videos from journalists around the globe.
Many users were already watching CNN’s 360-degrees videos with their Oculus Rift headsets, even the popular solar eclipse that occurred in last August. But the new CNNVR app support for the Oculus Rift will enable users to watch the entirety of CNN VR content in the highest resolutions.
The CNNVR app for the Oculus Rift features 360-degree videos with 4K resolution and a news ticker scroll. The app will launch with over 100 video stories from dozens of countries, all of them encoded by Pixvana.
