How to Play No Man’s Sky VR on PlayStation VR
This week saw the arrival of the No Man’s Sky Beyond update and with it the virtual reality support. Every No Man’s Sky game starts when new players awake in some strange and unfamiliar planet with nothing else other than a busted space ship. In the opening parts of the game, the player is guided through the process of repairing their ship in order to get off from the planet.
The most important resource that you will need to get off and fly yourself around the universe is the starship launch fuel. You will need to have this type of fuel every time your starship takes off. Users may not know how to craft this at the start of the game which may lead to them being stranded. Crafting the starship launch fuel is a fairly easy but multi-step process.
The game is fully built on top of the Hello Games’ procedural generation system which creates billions of planets in millions of star systems. It also simulates animals, plants, terrain, economies as well as alien species throughout the whole game.
No Man’s Sky was first released three years ago and over the years, it has evolved dramatically with every subsequent update and improved considerably. The Beyond Update was officially the game’s 2.0. The new update came with a revamped multiplayer experience, lots of new game mechanics and finally, virtual reality support.
Here is a guideline on how you can play the game on PSVR.
It is fairly a straightforward process. Users will need to start the game with the VR headset already on and running and then proceed as follows:-
- Login to your PS4
- Turn on the Move controllers
- Turn on the PlayStation VR
- Navigate No Man’s Sky using the Move Controllers
- Press on X to launch the game
That is all that’s required. You are now playing No Man’s Sky in VR mode. The player will be prompted to set up their play area once they are into the game. Without following this process, you will still be able to see the game in PSVR but the interactions with the game will not be the same.
If a player launches the game first and then puts on their PSVR afterwards, they will enter the cinema mode of the PlayStation. The cinema mode basically transforms your PSVR into a giant static TV screen. In the cinema mode, it is not possible to use any of the head tracking or motion controls. The cinema mode is still fun but it’s not what the virtual reality version of the No Man’s Sky is all about.
Playing No Man’s Sky in virtual reality is a lot of fun. Hello Games has intelligently incorporated VR into the game while clearly factoring in how the player can interact with the world around them. There are some small but fine touches such as lifting the handle inside the cockpit so as to open the canopy. The menu interface has been completely redesigned and is now on your gloves. The menu is also highly intuitive and flawless.
With these new enhancements, you will certainly enjoy immersing yourself in and exploring the limitless worlds of No Man’s Sky.
