Are These the Images of Facebook’s Soon to be Launched Ray-Ban’s Smart Glasses?
Facebook and Ray-Ban’s smart glasses collaboration is scheduled for an official release later in the day but just hours to the release, a Twitter leakster, Evan “Evleaks” Blass has posted a series of images purportedly of the product lineup. The leaked images reveal four different designs of the Facebook Ray-Ban’s sunglasses. Each of the designs looks like any normal pair of Ray-Ban’s sunglasses with tiny cameras fitted in the corners of the rims. From the leaks, the temples of the glasses look slightly thicker than those of the typical Ray-Ban’s sunglass models and this is, invariably, due to the circuitry and internal batteries housed by the sunglasses. The images also show a button located on the top right temple which might be for operating the tiny cameras by the hinges.

The new smartglasses are known as Ray-Ban stories. Facebook branding doesn’t appear anywhere on the glasses themselves but they do appear on the boxes/packaging.
The Evleaks images posted on Twitter show three distinct frame styles – Round, Wayfarer, and Meteor. All the frame styles look very similar to Ray-Ban’s classic designs.

Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg has previously stated that the smart glasses will “have (Ray-Ban’s) iconic form factor” and that they would enable users to do “pretty neat things.” These smart glasses do not have any screens for AR functionality and it is still unclear what they have in store. We will know soon enough later in the day. Zuckerberg had described the smartglasses as part of Facebook’s “journey towards full augmented reality glasses in the future” and that the company is working on more advanced AR glasses.
The pictures revealed so far don’t divulge much so we can’t know, yet, whether Facebook has leapfrogged beyond the capabilities of other more practical smartglasses in the market such as Snap’s early Spectacles smart glasses beyond making the glasses look cool and wearable like any other Ray-Ban’s. We will know soon enough later in the day. Keep it here for updates as Facebook and Ray-Ban smart glass collaboration is launched later today.
