Open Brush has provided a glimpse of its upcoming AR Passthrough mode for the app that will soon be available on all platforms.

The new AR Passthrough mode allows you to see Tilt Brush in the surrounding real-world environment via the Passthrough mode, providing a middle ground between Virtual Reality and true Augmented Reality.
The support is possible thanks to OpenBrush’s transition to OpenXR, with the team currently putting the “finishing touches” on this. The video above shared on Twitter was captured via Passthrough on Quest. However, OpenBrush has confirmed that there will be support for the mode on other platforms.
OpenBrush is the free and open-source continuation of Google’s Tilt Brush which Google transformed into an open-source application in early 2021 after discontinuing its development. Open Source has been receiving constant updates since its launch with the updates being entirely community-driven. The updates have brought new features, modes, and brushes to the app which have extended its functionality far beyond that of the original Tilt Brush. Its latest 1.0 update brought grid functionality, snapping, brush jitter controls as well as a new lazy input feature among others.
Google’s official and discontinued Tilt Brush is still available for $19.99 on the Oculus Store. However, Open Brush can be downloaded for free through App Lab for Quest and provides more features than are available in the official paid version, Tilt Brush.
Open Brush has maintained that it will remain entirely free, even with the addition of the bevy of features set to roll out in the future.
