Meta Quest 2 Update 39.0 Primed for a Virtual Office
In the latest Meta Quest 2 Update, you are taken to the mountains with an eye for productivity.
Like all Quest updates, Update 39.0 will gradually roll out in a staggered manner so it will take at least a week for the update to hit all headsets.
The latest Quest update will be a big boon for you if you like working in virtual reality. The new update is mainly aimed at upgrading the productivity aspect of the Quest experience.
Meta is bringing forth a new virtual office environment that is dubbed Mountain Study. The new virtual office immerses you into a sprawling study that is located in the mountains. The environment is productivity-focused and takes after a similar Studio which was unveiled in Update 34.0.
Apart from the new environment, another significant development with Update 40.0 is that Meta is finally rolling out the much-awaited Infinite Office in the latest update. A new tab has been added in the settings section that enables you to set up a virtual workspace.
In this section, you can choose the virtual work environment, and configure a physical desk in VR along with other needed peripherals such as a Bluetooth keyboard, and hand tracking. Although these actions were possible even before the update, you now get them all under a single tab so it will be easier for you to set up and manage your virtual office.
There are other minor productivity improvements in multitasking that comes out of the experimental phase and is now a regular feature.
Link Sharing to iOS
The new update now allows you to share links with iPad and iPhone.
Link sharing was first introduced with Update 37 but it was only available for Android devices. Through link sharing, you can share web links directly from a smartphone to a Meta Quest 2 headset through a companion app. The link automatically opens in the Oculus browser.
The Oculus browser icon has also been changed in the update and the notifications feed has had an upgrade. It is now possible to sort out your notifications based on time in virtual reality. You are also able to select and configure the individual app notifications in the companion app.
Check out the Oculus Release Notes for the full text on Update 39.0.
Horizon Home
Just like in Update 38.0, Update 39.0 brings a small number of features and upgrades. Meta has said that another update, Update 40.0, will follow soon.
Many Quest users want to see the Horizon Home feature launched. It will enable users to invite their friends into the launch environment as Meta avatars.
Horizon Home was first announced at the Connect 2021 and Meta had promised that the feature would arrive soon but it has been more than six months since.
