ByteDance subsidiary, Pico, is planning to launch a new headset according to FCC filings discovered by the online publication Protocol. The new entries for the Pico 4 headset were filed last week and show the company’s plans to launch two versions of the virtual reality headset. The other model is named Pico 4 Pro.

Both Pico 4 and Pico 4 Pro are standalone virtual reality headsets just like Meta’s Quest headsets prompting speculation that the TikTok parent company is looking to take on Meta in its home ground, the U.S. market.

The Pico Pro model of the two Pico headsets will feature both face tracking and eye tracking functions according to information in a document that is part of the filings. The new headset is internally codenamed Phoenix and it will be powered by a Qualcomm processor and run an Android Q.

Although the filings have been heavily redacted, Protocol reports that some information can still be gleaned about the Pico 4 headset. For instance, images show that the headsets will be launching with new controllers.

Partial device photos in the filings are showing the controllers and the headset will both be white in color just like Pico’s current headset line, the Pico Neo 3.

Pico was acquired in August last year by ByteDance, the TikTok parent company. Before the acquisition, the VR hardware company focused primarily on the enterprise market.

In recent months, ByteDance has been signaling its quest to take on Meta and its Quest line of headsets.

The current Pico Neo 3 Link headset started shipping to European consumers this spring.

Pico is currently on a recruitment spree in the U.S where it is also developing a content unit called Pico Studios.
